Seven reasons to dive off-season

Okay, so you won’t see any whalesharks; let’s get that out of the way, shall we? That’s the only reason we call it the “off” season. But hey — it’s a great big body of water out there, and trust us, there’s a whole lot of amazing things to do and see!

So let us count the reasons why you’re going to have a whale of a dive staying with us any time from May to October:

  1. Fine, fine weather
The sun warm on your back, the wind blowing across the bay, and cool, clear waters inviting you to dive in. What’s not to love about the tropics? The weather is perfect at this time of year, with water temperature around 30 degrees and dive visibility of up to 30 meters. Also, we get very little typhoons in these parts. And if you’re worried about the monsoon, Sogod Bay’s unique location makes it so that it isn’t more than mildly inconvenienced by this seasonal disturbance.
  2. Get away from the madding crowd
Guests always tell us what they love about Sogod Bay is that it’s not the congested tourist trap other dive areas have become. Have the beach to yourself, dive in deserted coves, enjoy the silence, and explore the reefs and depths without encountering species other than the marine sort. Off-season or not, Sogod Bay offers all the peace, adventure, and marine diversity you’ll ever need.
  3. Longer days
It’s smack in the middle of summer, after all. This means you get more dive time, and with more than 26 diverse dive sites to choose from, that’s exactly what you need. If you still crave for more by the end of the day, there’s always night/muck diving under the Padre Burgos Jetty.
  4. Dinagat rocks!
For the reasons outlined above (and lots more, as you’ll see), this is the best time for a Dinagat Island day safari. Dinagat is one the diving world’s best-kept secrets (hint: “Dinagat” is this site’s #1 searched-for keyword). Actually a group of rocky islets that jut out of the deep as majestic pinnacles, it is an isolated, unexplored outpost. Strong currents are a given, but the underwater scenery is much, much more fantastic. Visibility is often 40+ meters.
  5. Deep discounts
Groups of 2-5 divers get 20% off on accommodation and 20% off dives (minimum two dives). But if you organize a group of six or more divers, you as group leader get to stay and dive with us for FREE, while group members get 30% off the regular dive and room rates. Non-divers get 10% off accommodation. What’s more, most airliners generally slash ticket prices during this time. Gotta love those discounts!
  6. Same great dive sites
It’s not like the ocean closes shop during off-season. Only the whalesharks migrate; all other denizens of the deep stay and await your company. Enjoy our House Reef, one of the finest in the region; explore the hidden coves and caves at Tangkaan Point; wonder at the incredible biodiversity on display at Malitbog; find out why Panaon consistently ranks as one of the best dive sites in Southeast Asia; discover the thrill of drift diving at Liloan, and go muck diving under the Padre Burgos Jetty.
  7. Improved resort, great service, more choices
Sounds like a shameless plug, we know. But we take great pride in being good at what we do. And since we’ve added more cottages and rooms, plus a new pool and bar, you can easily work within your budget and still get to experience our world-famous hospitality with a greater variety of choices not readily available during the peak season.

So there. Seven sounds like a nice enough number of reasons for you to swing by and spend your diving vacation with us. We look forward to seeing you come off-season!
