Malitbog
Travel time: Aprroximately 20 minutes
Dive level: Intermediate/Easy
Dive type: Boat
One of the oldest towns in the region, Malitbog still maintains its Spanish colonial-era charm: a well-preserved church dating back to the early 1800s, an ancestral mansion converted into a museum, and two of the few standing watch towers that used to guard the island’s coastal towns from pirates.
A short boat ride from the resort (Malitbog is right next to Padre Burgos), the dive sites here lend themselves well to macro photography: Cantamuac and Bunga Bend for nudibranchs and a variety of critters amidst colorful corals and crinoids in strong current, and the Cemetery Wreck, with its coral-encrusted barge teeming with marine life.
And they say…
“The corals here represent approximately 59% of all species reported for the Philippines. Four species are considered uncommon to rare, and five have not been reported to occur in the country in previous published literature.”
